According to one of my many dismal school reports, and, in part, thanks to a Physics teacher’s comments, I, “lacked an imagination”. That particular physics teacher could have truthfully also added that I always appeared to be bored by the subject, and was resistant to acquiring knowledge.
According to one of my many dismal school reports, and, in part, thanks to a Physics teacher’s comments, I, “lacked an imagination”. That particular physics teacher could have truthfully also added that I always appeared to be bored by the subject, and was resistant to acquiring knowledge.Leaving my apparent lack of imagination to one side, as my interest in diving grew, so, too, did my interest in physics … mainly when I began to appreciate that proper observance of the ‘Laws of Physics’ was a great way of ensuring my continued well-being and survival.
The more that I read and learned about physics, the more exciting the subject became. Especially when, in 1979, I stumbled upon the world of quantum physics through the pages of, ‘The Dancing Wu Li Masters’, a book written for lay-people like me.

Encouraged to learn more after several decades and numerous readings of that earlier book, I’ve just finished reading a new-release library book called the, ‘Quantum Drama’. Now, more than ever, I’m convinced that physics has more in common with ‘magic’ and the world of Harry Potter than it does with what I’ve always thought of as ‘science’.
Which probably means that my dormant imagination has been awakened … something that, in diving, can be both a blessing as well as a curse.
